Joint Commission, the accrediting body for hospitals and health systems, teamed with SSM Health executive Denise Wilson to announce and explain a significant evolution in its patient safety framework as the organization introduced its National Performance Goals.

Wilson, a nurse leader and SSM Health System Director of Regulatory Compliance & Accreditation, serves on Joint Commission’s Health System Advisory Council, where she brings the perspective of health systems and frontline caregivers to national conversations on quality and safety.

As part of the rollout, Wilson appears in a series of videos alongside Joint Commission’s Ken Grubbs, Chief Nurse Executive and Executive Vice President of Accreditation and Certification Operations. Their discussion focuses on National Performance Goal 2: Culture of Safety, with particular emphasis on the role of leadership in creating environments where team members feel supported to speak up, report concerns, and learn from near misses and safety events.

Joint Commission sought Wilson’s participation to ensure that the perspective of health care organizations and nurse leadership was reflected as the new goals were introduced.
