On March 11, all SSM Health Treffert Center locations celebrated "Dr. T Day" in memory of the center's founder, Dr. Darold Treffert.
The Dr. T puppet, thanks to Bryan Mischler and Spencer Depies of the Treffert Center, made an appearance in the Treffert Library to engage with the children and enjoy a chorus of “Happy Birthday.” Young and old alike donned colorful party hats and enjoyed Dr. Treffert’s favorite cupcakes.
Students and staff dressed up like Dr. T, made new explorer puppets, read a picture book about Dr. Treffert, and created paper “strength chains” as they wrote down the strengths they see in each other. The colorful chains were used to decorate the Treffert Library.
Dr. Treffert’s birthday was always a joyous occasion during the years he strolled the halls of the Treffert Center and interacted cheerfully with children and staff. This year’s celebration in his honor and memory brought such happiness and hope to the center, particularly after creatively serving during the long, challenging months of the pandemic. Everyone in attendance welcomed the opportunity to decorate, laugh, reminisce and raise their voices in song.
Thank you, Dr. Treffert, for giving us a reason to celebrate – and for letting us carry on your legacy as best we can – in many wonderful ways.
