Clinical Ladder program helps nurses climb to professional growth

by SSM Health

At SSM Health, we believe our work is more than a career – it’s a calling. We created an optional Clinical Ladder Program to support our nurse’s professional growth and recognize them for their dedication and contributions to SSM Health. The first year of the clinical ladder program was a huge success. We had 1,237 nurses successfully complete the clinical ladder.

Beth Runge, BSN, RN

Beth Runge, BSN, RN from SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital – Centralia, is one of the nurses who participated in the Clinical Ladder program. She highly recommends it. “I want to be a lifelong learner,” Runge says. “I am in constant pursuit for knowledge, not just professionally but personally as well. I have been blessed throughout my career at St. Mary’s to be surrounded by some very amazing people both at the bedside and in leadership roles. I am committed to being a sponge and absorbing every ounce of knowledge I can. Having and sharing knowledge is priceless.

“I also have a little bit of a competitive streak in me,” she added. “I was determined to encourage our team here at St. Mary’s to participate in the program. I wanted our team to have the highest percentage of participation. By encouraging others to be the best them – it makes a better US!”.

Beth plans to use the reimbursement dollars to join Illinois Organization of Nurse Leaders so she can participate in webinars to continue her professional growth.
