Care Coordination

At the SSM Health Cardinal Glennon St. Louis Fetal Care Institute, we use a multidisciplinary approach when caring for all of our babies, especially those with fetal heart conditions. Our multidisciplinary approach includes services such as obstetrics, cardiology, neonatology, and cardiac surgery, and requires advanced coordination and communication.

The Fetal Heart Program at SSM Health Cardinal Glennon St. Louis Fetal Care Institute provides a single point of contact for you and your doctors. This helps ensure physicians, mothers and families have the answers they need to ensure the best care for their new baby.

Our team fosters an open exchange between all specialties involved to make sure that the plan of care for you and your baby occurs as seamlessly as possible. When you arrive for delivery, the team is prepared to take over the care of your baby after birth.

Collaboration with Referring Physicians

When families have an idea of what to expect, they are better prepared emotionally to deal with the course of treatment their baby may require after birth. We strive for a collaborative approach with the your physicians to optimize care for both you and your baby.

Our Fetal Heart Program team coordinates care for babies with maternal fetal medicine specialists, cardiologists, cardiothoracic surgeons, neonatologists, genetic counselors and social services to create a delivery and care plan for each baby’s unique situation. Your baby may require surgery after birth, but we’re here to provide you with the information and encouragement you need for this potential situation.

Continuation of Care

Many mothers who visit with the Fetal Heart Program can continue care with their obstetrician and pediatric cardiologist. Our team works directly with your current doctors, keeping them abreast of any changes or modified treatment plans. Our goal is to create a seamless transition of care for our mothers and babies. And once your baby is born, our exceptional care team is equipped to handle continued care for even the most complex cases.
