Referring to the Fetal Heart Program

Our Fetal Heart Program team at the SSM Health Cardinal Glennon St. Louis Fetal Care Institute partners with referring physicians to ensure the best care possible for all of our patients. Fetal care nurses are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week at 314-268-4037 to discuss a patient’s case and help begin their care coordination.

The Referral Process

Upon referral, our team requests copies of all prenatal records and diagnostic images. If your patient is currently under the care of a maternal fetal medicine specialist (MFM), and/or a pediatric cardiologist, our team can assist with all care coordination.

This coordination allows for a stronger partnership between your patient’s current care team, and the fetal cardiology and cardiothoracic surgery teams at SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital, resulting in exceptional care. Families also have the chance to become familiar with the hospital and prepare for their baby’s surgery if needed.

What happens if you don't have a fetal medicine specialist?

If you do not have a maternal fetal medicine specialist, or pediatric cardiologist, our team will work with you and your referring physician to ensure that a care team is established. Communication is key, and our team ensures referring physicians are informed and part of the decision making process.
