Visiting the Fetal Heart Program 

If your unborn baby has been diagnosed with a congenital heart defect, the fetal heart program at SSM Health Cardinal Glennon St. Louis Fetal Care Institute can help. We use a multidisciplinary approach to coordinate care for your unborn baby. Our approach gives you a key point of contact, peace of mind, and prepares you for the birth of your baby. We also provide the care needed after delivery, including cardiothoracic surgery.

Who You'll Meet During Your Visit

When visiting with the fetal heart team, you’ll have the opportunity to meet with a group of expert health care providers from:

• Pediatric cardiology
• Pediatric cardiac surgery team (if necessary)
• The St. Louis Fetal Care Institute
  • Maternal fetal medicine specialist
  • Nurse coordinator
  • Social worker
  • Genetic counselor
• Neonatology

Additionally, you will be given the opportunity to tour additional departments at SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital that could be involved in your baby's care.

The Dana Brown Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)

Infants that spend time in the Dana Brown Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital are living proof of the consistently high level of care our team delivers. With new technology, 23-week old gestation babies (those born in the sixth month of pregnancy) are surviving conditions that would have been incomprehensible before the 1980's.

Our NICU is recognized as a Neonatal Center of Excellence by the American Accreditation Healthcare Commission.

The Dorothy and Larry Dallas Heart Center at SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital makes cardiology care more convenient and more accessible for patients and their families.

Our center performs more than 23,000 visits and procedures each year. At the Dorothy and Larry Dallas Heart Center, you can expect a comprehensive care team, devoted to your child through individualized counseling and care.
