Preparing For Your First Visit

After you or your doctor’s first call to the SSM Health Cardinal Glennon St. Louis Fetal Care Institute, our team will review your case and one of our care coordinators will contact you to welcome you to the program. At this time, they will arrange your initial visit.

Your care coordinator will plan your initial visit. They will contact your OB/GYN to obtain your current medical records, which is an important step in ensuring continuity of care. They will also arrange appointments with pediatric specialists who will be involved in your baby's care, as well as maternal-fetal medicine specialists who will be responsible for your care. In addition, they will schedule any additional testing that will need to be done at this initial appointment to ensure that all necessary information is gathered to develop the best care plan for you and your baby.

In preparation for your visit, we encourage you to gather any questions or concerns you may have about your pregnancy. Your first appointment will be a great time to talk about them with our specialists. This can include questions about the diagnostic tests, the potential need for interventions, or any other aspect of your care plan. Our team is here to provide you with the support and answers you need to feel confident and informed about the care you and your baby will receive.

We understand that you may be feeling a range of emotions about your upcoming visit – from anxiety to hope. Please know that we are here not only to provide medical care but also emotional support. We offer resources for counseling and can connect you with support groups if you wish to speak with other families who have gone through similar experiences. Our goal is to make this journey as comfortable and reassuring as possible, providing a holistic approach to care that addresses all your needs.

We look forward to meeting you and are here to support you and your family every step of the way.
