Head, Brain, and Skeletal System

Our SLUCare Physician Group specialists evaluate and treat a variety of fetal conditions related to the head, brain, and skeletal system. By using innovative technology, our team of experts can diagnose these conditions in the womb so you – and your baby – get the specialized care you need.

The following are some of the conditions we treat which impact head, brain, and skeletal system:

  • Chiari Malformation - A crowding of the structures at the base of the baby's brain, near the spinal canal.
  • Cleft Lip & Palate - A condition where the baby's upper lip and/or palate does not form completely.
  • Clubfoot - A condition where a baby’s foot is twisted inward to the point where the bottom of the foot faces sideways and in some cases upward.
  • Hydrocephalus - Cerebrospinal fluid circulation is impaired, resulting in a build-up of fluid and pressure on the brain.
  • Microcephaly - The development of the brain slows down, or in rare cases stops growing in the womb or after delivery.
  • Myelomeningocele (Spina Bifida) - The spinal cord fails to close during development causing damage to the spinal nerves.
  • Skeletal Dysplasias - A class of conditions which may include shortened arms and/or legs, smaller chest size, and an abnormal head size and shape.
