The SLUCare Division of Pediatric Endocrinology at SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital is recognized nationally for its multidisciplinary patient care approach. Working together, our team of pediatric endocrinologists, nurses, nurse practitioners, dietitians, certified diabetes educators, social worker and psychologist deliver sophisticated treatment, making our program a top pick for parents regionally.

We receive thousands of endocrine clinic visits annually and roughly 2,500 visits to our diabetes clinic each year. We work hard to provide every treatment option available for children with complex endocrine system disorders. Our focus on continuity of care and specialized programs has led to outstanding outcomes for patients and families. We care for pediatric patients with:

Innovation in Diabetes Care

Innovations in research and an ongoing commitment to improving all aspects of a patient’s health are key drivers of our comprehensive diabetes care. Continuity of care is the hallmark of our services, with patients and families assigned to a specific endocrinology and nurse practitioner for recurring visits. The team is skilled at educating our young patients on the maintenance of their condition. We also hold regular introductory classes for those interested in learning more about insulin pumps.

With increasing use of new technologies, we are able to help our patients better manage their HbA1C levels. If your child’s diabetes is controlled, they will have an HbA1C lower than 53mmol/mol or (7%) and should be tested every 3-6 months. Among our teen patients, the average HcA1C levels have dropped from 10% in 2011 to 8.5% in 2016.

Diabetes Research

Our extensive experience and affiliation with Saint Louis University School of Medicine makes us one of only 15 centers in the country participating in a unique study that compares different treatment options for children diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes, between the ages of 10 and 17. This study is sponsored by the National Institute of Health and called Treatment Options for Type 2 Diabetes in Adolescents and Youth (TODAY).
