Bringing the Future of Medical Imaging Close to Home

February 22, 2022 01:38 PM -

The face of medicine has changed a great deal in the ten years since SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital - Janesville first opened its doors. What has not changed is our commitment to providing exceptional care to our friends and neighbors where it is needed most – right here at home.

The need for medical diagnostic imaging services continues to grow, as accurate images play a vital role in making appropriate diagnoses and personalized treatment plans. New technologies involve less processing time and less radiation exposure to the patient.

These advances require a re-imagination of health care delivery in order to provide the best possible patient experience. That is why SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital - Janesville is embarking on a large-scale renovation of our imaging services that will bring together the latest technology and the safest, most convenient care.

Phase I

This medical imaging project begins with the addition of a state-of-the-art Siemens Intevo Bold SPECT-CT machine. Single-Photon Emission Computed Tomography is a test that uses a special type of camera and a tracer to produce detailed 3D images of organs and tissues. Its most common uses are to help diagnose and monitor brain, heart and bone disorders.

Every year, more than 800 patients receive nuclear medicine testing at one of two locations: SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital - Janesville and SSM Health Dean Medical Group – Janesville East. This upgrade will consolidate all nuclear medicine testing to a single location at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital - Janesville.

While our current medical imaging equipment was state-of-the-art when the hospital first opened, technology has since advanced, making devices like SPECT-CT more safe, reliable, and cost-effective.

SPECT-CT has numerous advantages and often reduces the need for additional testing with its improved accuracy. It is even safe for patients with pacemakers and other metal implants.

Phase II

Reconfiguration of our medical imaging spaces will allow for the creation of brand new, inviting patient care areas that will promote patient relaxation in a comfortable environment. Medical imaging procedures can be a source of worry for many patients and dedicated waiting area will be created to improve comfort and privacy. Comfortable changing rooms will also be added to further enhance the experience our patients have when coming to the hospital for testing.

How You Can Make An Impact

A project of this scope needs the support of the entire community to raise $100,000 of the $1.8 million that will make this renovation a reality. By joining us in this exciting project, you are contributing to the comfort, safety, and quality of care for patients throughout our community. Make a gift now.
