Join the March for Meals

Madison, WI (March 7, 2023) – SSM Health at Home has been providing Meals on Wheels to the greater Madison community for over 50 years evolving to meet the needs of our clients. Today the program provides over 300 nutritious mid-day meals, Monday – Friday, to residents of Madison, Middleton, and Monona.

Since the beginning, the generosity of donors, volunteers, and community support has been essential. That support was especially important when the program received unexpected notification in late January 2023 our caterer was no longer able to provide meals, effective immediately. We were able to regroup quickly, resuming delivery to our most vulnerable clients within 48 hours and all recipients within eight days.

We are asking the community to continue to support our program, by joining the March for Meals, an annual fundraising and awareness campaign created by Meals on Wheels America. This year, SSM Health at Home is holding a Virtual 5k March for Meals. Participants can help support their neighbors in need, choosing to run or walk in the virtual event. The 5k can be completed all at once or over the course of our “March” which runs from March 21 to June 30, 2023. While many recipients receive funding from Dane County and other organizations, some do not. Funds raised from March for Meals will help bridge that gap, making sure everyone who needs the nutrition and safety check SSM Health at Home’s Meals on Wheels program provides receives it. Visit ssmhealth.com/MarchforMeals to register for the 5k, make a donation, or learn more about volunteering.

As our Meals on Wheels program looks to the future, we are excited to announce an expansion of our partnership with Goodman Community Center. Later this spring, Goodman Community Center will expand its support and become our contracted caterer for the SSM Health at Home Meals on Wheels Program. Goodman Community Center currently prepares meals for its in-house programs. Over the next month, they will be ramping up production to provide an additional 300 meals a day to meet the needs of SSM Health at Home’s Meals on Wheels recipients.
