In Katie’s role as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, she provides anesthesia care for patients before, during and after surgery. Katie was nominated for the honor by a colleague who highlighted Katie’s outstanding presence and level of care she provides patients. The nomination read:
“Katie is one of the best RNs/CRNAs that I have ever met and/or worked with over the years. This person out of all the nurses I know deserves this award. As CRNAs, I don’t think they get the recognition that other departments get. I was scheduled to have a procedure & requested Katie. Things were very busy that day and Katie checked on me when I first got here, but then wasn’t able to be my CRNA. The one that was, was great. Later, before I left, Katie came in and apologized for being tied up with another case & just made sure everything was okay before I went home. She was truly concerned. I also work with Katie & she is so calm & caring with her patients. Katie makes them feel important & is always very kind & calming. I have never seen Katie lose her compassion for patients. It shows with every single interaction I’ve seen over all the years I’ve worked with Katie. She is such a calming presence in a painful time (Labor) & very efficient. I really think Katie deserves this award & is a huge asset to SSM Health St. Clare Hospital. Thanks Katie, for all you do!”
The BEE Award complements the DAISY Award, which is given to Registered Nurses for their exceptional care. Just as a DAISY cannot survive without the BEE, nurses cannot survive without the outstanding teamwork provided by other health care professionals.

In her role as a Polysomnographer, Lori conducts sleep studies. Lori’s winning nomination was submitted by a patient and shows her exceptional commitment to patient care.
“This employee went out of their way to help me & I am so grateful. As an unhappy CPAP user (never found a mask that fit properly), the borrowed mask from SSM Health to use during a recent overnight stay was wonderful but not there when I discharged. I explained this after wandering into the department. They found me a mask and assured me it would fit my needs and give me the night rest I really needed. They could have just listened and said goodbye. But they responded to my problem and found a solution though I was no longer a St. Clare patient. This individual went above & beyond their job description! Dependable and caring makes them an exceptional employee. So rare these days. Kudos to this employee! Thank you for having such a quality person on your staff!”
Congratulations, Katie and Lori, on these well-deserved honors!
