ST. LOUIS, MO SSM Health DePaul Hospital – St. Louis has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® and the American Stroke Association’s Heart-Check mark for Advanced Comprehensive Stroke Center Recertification.
SSM Health DePaul – St. Louis underwent a rigorous, onsite review on October 17, and October 18, 2024. During the visits, a Joint Commission reviewer evaluated compliance with related certification standards that included a program analyzation of how fast treatment is administered for strokes, time allotment transpired from emergency arrival to treatment, how robust the specialists are in providing care, the availability of services, assessments of quality of care, the attention to social determinants of health, equity efforts, and adherence to meticulous national standards. Joint Commission standards are developed in consultation with health care experts and providers, measurement experts, and patients. The reviewer also conducted onsite observations and interviews.

SSM Health DePaul Hospital’s Dr. Amer Al Shekhlee, medical director of the stroke program, and Nancy Jackson, stroke coordinator, led the surveyor presentation for the multidisciplinary team. The two health care professionals incorporated the American Stroke Association’s "Get With The Guidelines" standards as benchmarks for the surveyor’s review.
SSM Health DePaul Hospital is also designated as a Level I Stroke Center from the State of Missouri, their highest level of certification.
