Centralia, Illinois – Donations of $35,000 from SSM Health St. Mary's Hospital Auxiliary in Centralia and $30,000 from SSM Health Medical Group in Centralia have helped bring “MammaAnne”, a high fidelity maternal and birthing simulator, to SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital - Centralia.

MammaAnne is designed to replicate real-life situations and train staff in critical emergencies and routine deliveries. From facilitating accurate birth movements and positions, creating realistic palpable contractions, and realistically simulating obstetric emergencies to prepare staff for these potentially life-threatening events, MammaAnne will help ensure staff are prepared for high-risk situations.

Evidence-based research confirms simulations significantly improve clinical performance and patient safety, and these trainings are especially crucial in our rural health setting where exposure to high-acuity cases are limited.

“The incredible support from the St. Mary’s Hospital Auxiliary and the medical group is an investment in our caregivers – giving them access to advanced training and hands-on experience directly translates into safer, more confident care for our patients,” said Kay Zibby-Damon, director of the SSM Health Foundation in Southern Illinois. “Philanthropy like this truly strengthens the health and well-being of our local communities.”

MammaAnne and future training advancements are made possible through donor support to the SSM Health Foundation in Southern Illinois. Community generosity plays a vital role in equipping caregivers with the tools and training they need to deliver exceptional care close to home.

We extend our sincere thanks to the SSM Health St. Mary's Hospital Auxiliary in Centralia and SSM Health Medical Group in Centralia, as their generous gifts helps ensure that SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia remains a place where innovation, compassion, and clinical excellence come together for every patient, every time.
