Charlie Bucket: What happened?
Willy Wonka: He lived happily ever after.
My first day of work here at the SSM Health Treffert Center was July 19, 2021. The 63 days that have passed since then have confirmed what I was hoping -- that this job is my dream come true.
I want to tell you about three things that stand out: The Town, The Job, and of course The Team.
The Town: I had never been to Fond du Lac before I first drove up to meet Drs. Treffert and Doll in 2019. Although I have an hourlong commute each way, it goes by fast, and each trip up here feels like a mini-vacation: the classic Main Street (including my favorite hang-out Annie's Fountain City Cafe), the beautiful parks and waterfront, and the low-key vibe I sense as I've explored the area. What a great town to work in!
The Job: Now that I have completed training, I have the luxury of working with great autonomy. I've configured my first permanent office just the way I want it, and I'm getting to utilize a Vibe interactive whiteboard to develop new ways to enhance my delivery of care. The patients and families I care for have been wonderful to work with, and I'm so glad to fill in a much-needed gap in local child psychiatry services. Additionally, joining the SSM Health Treffert Center's savant evaluation team has been a surreal experience, as I'm meeting and learning about wonderful human beings who possess spectacular cognitive and artistic abilities. And of course...we have some awesome projects coming down the pipeline.
The Team: What can I say? The core group of world-class clinicians and staff who run the SSM Health Treffert Center are the absolute best in the land. I'm honored and humbled to play a small role in upholding and expanding upon the legacy of the one-of-a-kind Dr. Darold Treffert. I feel his presence every time I enter the Center. I am so grateful to my new team for welcoming me into the Treffert Center family.
Magical things lie ahead!
