After 10 years of caring for hospital patients, SSM Health caregiver Carly Martelle is entering a new chapter of her career.
Carly, a new Internal Medicine provider at SSM Health Dean Medical Group – Janesville East, is excited to build her medical practice in her hometown.
“Janesville is a beautiful city filled with diverse people, and I’m so excited to now have the opportunity to form lasting relationships with my patients,” she said.
Originally, Carly didn’t know that healthcare would be her calling. It wasn’t until college that she began to take courses which sparked an interest in learning more.
“I decided to apply to nursing schools,” she said.
Everything then began to fall into place.
Carly was a student nurse at SSM Health and was hired following her clinical rotation.
“SSM Health has helped to shape me into the nurse, person, and healthcare professional I am today,” she said. “I am forever grateful for that.”
Carly began her four-year DNP-FNP program after 6 years of bedside nursing. Going to school and working was a challenge, but she managed to find a balance.
“SSM Health gave me the flexibility to work around my school schedule,” she said. “It was a no-brainer to stay with SSM Health in my new role.”
As an APNP, Carly will now focus on the health, wellness, and wellbeing of her patients in an outpatient setting. She will get to help with preventative measures, versus providing nursing when her patients are already acutely ill.
Carly strives to provide exceptional care.
“I would like to think I am making a little bit of a difference in the community I love and grew up in,” she said.
Carly encourages all caregivers to pursue additional education and growth if they aspire to do.
“The right time is now - give yourself some grace, and trust in your abilities to pursue new things,” she said. “Believe in yourself - you can do it…the only thing you will regret is not trying.”
