SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital – St. Louis is an approximately 500-bed community teaching hospital serving patients from across the St. Louis metropolitan area. We have several medical residency programs in addition to a PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency including the SSM Health St. Mary's - St. Louis Internal Medicine Residency, Saint Louis University School of Medicine Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency, and Saint Louis University Family Medicine Residency. St. Mary’s campus includes a broad range of outpatient services including Internal Medicine, Cardiology, Endocrinology, Geriatric Care, Gastroenterology, Pulmonology, and Maternal Fetal Medicine.

Residency Overview

SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital – St. Louis PGY2 Ambulatory Care Pharmacy Residency was established in 2024 with pre-candidate ASHP accredited program. The program's goal is to develop resident pharmacists into advanced practitioners capable of providing comprehensive medication therapy management in the outpatient setting.

The program is unique in that it provides training at multiple sites across the Saint Louis region, allowing for a diverse experience among specialties and patient populations. Residents of our program will rotate through learning experiences at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital – St. Louis, SSM Health St. Louis University Hospital, SSM Health DePaul Hospital – St. Louis, and SSM Health St. Clare Hospital – St. Louis.

SSM Health has educational affiliations with the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy and Southern Illinois University School of Pharmacy. Residents in this program will participate in a seminar series, a resident research conference, and have the option to participate in a teaching certificate program. The resident will complete a year-long research or process improvement project and be involved with precepting Advanced Practice Pharmacy Experience (APPE) students from the local colleges of pharmacy and PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residents.
