Maternal-Fetal Medicine
Specialized Care for Every Aspect of High-Risk Pregnancy
SLUCare Physician Group maternal-fetal medicine physicians are leaders in delivering high-risk babies. As every expectant mother is different, we will tailor your care to fit your needs. Our team of experts can be used as a consultation resource for you and your primary obstetrician, we can take over as your primary obstetrician for the remainder of your pregnancy and delivery, or we can provide any combination of services in between.
We are equipped to discuss pre-pregnancy concerns with women who have a preexisting condition like obesity, diabetes, asthma, high blood pressure or kidney disease that may complicate your pregnancy. We take patients with complex medical issues and can educate you on the safety of pharmaceutical care during pregnancy. We understand how some medications can affect your baby and others do not, and we will help both you and your baby stay healthy during the pregnancy.
We have maternal-fetal medicine physicians, neonatologists, medical geneticists and genetic counselors available to your family, as well as pediatric medical specialists and pediatric surgical specialists.
We are prepared to take immediate action whenever complications of pregnancy occur. We are also on the forefront of prenatal genetic testing and other medical and surgical treatment options. The SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital Fetal Care Institute specializes in in-utero issues, such as spina bifida and twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome.
SLUCare physicians also practice telemedicine, which is a remote ultrasound. Patients who live outside the city can receive an ultrasound over a secured Internet connection with an expert in St. Louis.
With a SLUCare delivery, high-risk pregnancies have a 30 percent C-section rate, which is impressively low. Our physicians are committed to a natural birth process. The delivery will happen at SSM Health St. Mary's Hospital - St. Louis, which offers private rooms for all patients. Babies who are born prematurely will have the highest quality of care in our neonatal intensive care unit.
