About the Meals on Wheels Program

What Each Meal Includes

Each meal includes a protein, starch or bread, salad or vegetable, fruit or dessert, and a carton of milk. All meals are low in sodium and can be prepared for the following diets:

  • General
  • Vegetarian (no meat)
  • Soft (ground meat)

Cost

Our Meals on Wheels program is supported with funds from Dane County Human Services. For those who qualify, the meals are provided at a suggested donation of $4.50 per meal, however meal delivery will not be impacted by whether a donation is received.

Clients can also choose to pay privately at $9.00 per meal. We also work with Medicaid Managed Care programs and have additional financial support available through the SSM Health at Home Foundation of Wisconsin.

It's More than a Meal

In addition to a meal, our volunteers provide a friendly smile and a safety check. In the event a recipient does not answer for their meal, volunteers are instructed to call the Meals On Wheels office. Our staff then attempts to contact the recipient and/or their emergency contact to verify everything is okay. If necessary, public safety officers may be contacted to do a safety check.

Blizzard Meals

Blizzard meals are provided to recipients to ensure they are not left without their noontime meal in the case of severe winter weather that prevents volunteers from delivering the daily meal.
