The SLUCare Physician Group sleep specialists at SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital can help detect sleep apnea and many other sleep disorders in children. Along with our diagnostic services we offer actigraphy monitoring, sleep psychology services and myofunctional treatment for sleep apnea.
Missing out on sleep can affect a child's behavior, appetite, growth and even their performance in school. So diagnosing and fixing a sleep problem is always a priority. Having a good, full night of sleep is essential to everyone at every point in life. We are only now beginning to understand how important a factor sleep deprivation is, especially in children.
A sleep study is recommended if your child snores and has been diagnosed with any of the following symptoms:
Around 12% of children snore and about one in four of those suffer from sleep apnea.
Removing large tonsils can resolve 80% of sleep-related breathing problems in children. However, even with tonsils removed some children can still suffer sleep loss and/or have excessive daytime sleepiness even if they don't snore while asleep. In these cases a sleep study could be beneficial.
