SSM Health St. Clare Foundation Offers Donation to Keep Transportation Available for Patients and the Community

December 02, 2024 09:34 AM -

BARABOO, WI – As the City of Baraboo grappled with significant budget cuts, vital community services, such as the local taxi service, were at risk of being discontinued. This potential loss posed a severe threat to the healthcare infrastructure of our community, particularly affecting patients at SSM Health St. Clare Hospital – Baraboo, Dean Medical Group, and St. Clare Meadows currently served by Abby Vans, as one of the major one-way drop-off and pick-up locations in the area.

To offset the discontinuation of transportation services in Baraboo, SSM Health St. Clare Foundation pledged a one-time $50,000 donation for the 2025 fiscal year to support the shared-ride taxi program. The St. Clare Foundation Board of Directors designated this grant from investment earnings that have accrued. Julia Randles, Director of the SSM Health St. Clare Foundation noted that “this is a short-term solution to a long-term problem giving the city and key stakeholders time to explore collaboration and partnerships that could create a better funding model in the future.”

The St. Clare Foundation has a longstanding commitment to fostering a healthier community through collaboration with local agencies. Successful initiatives like the Healthy Community Partnership Grant Program, 3rd Grade Fun ‘n Fit, and the Food Pantry Hygiene Program underscore our dedication to community well-being.
