Recipients uphold an exceptional dedication to the values of SSM Health, which include compassion, stewardship, excellence, community, and respect.

SSM Health St. Clare Hospital – Baraboo emergency medicine physician Dr. Joseph Hansen was honored with the award this year on May 28 during a Medical Staff meeting.

Dr. Hansen was nominated for the award by four people. Each of the nominations were read at the ceremony. The common thread among his nominations focused on his compassionate bedside manner with patients and families and his dedication to educate both staff and patients.

As noted in one of his nominations, “Dr. Hansen’s unwavering commitment to compassionate care shines brightly through his actions. He consistently takes the time to sit with patients and their family members at their bedside, offering a listening ear and comforting presence during their most vulnerable moments. His ability to empathize and connect on a personal level is truly exceptional. He not only treats medical conditions, but also cares for the well-being of the human spirit.”
