SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital is proud to have received redesignation as a Magnet Hospital by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). Redesignation as a Magnet hospital illustrates the ministry’s high quality, exceptional care, and commitment to nursing excellence. The designation indicates that a hospital illustrates the highest standard of care.
SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital first received its designation in 2019. Hospitals which are Magnet designated not only provide exceptional care, but an exceptional culture and environment.
Research indicates that Magnet recognition is associated with:
- Higher patient satisfaction
- Lower risk of 30-day mortality and lower failure to rescue rates
- Higher job satisfaction among nurses
- Lower nurse reports of intentions to leave their positions
CNO/COO Michelle Romano, MSN, RN, NEA-BC provided a few words in celebration of this achievement, stating: “This designation reflects the highest standards of nursing excellence. The work we do positively affects the continuum of care for our pediatric and neonatal population. The compassion, the clinical expertise, and the calming presence our nursing staff truly reflects our ministry’s mission.”
Magnet Program Manager and Pediatric Practice Lead, Rebecca Chambers, DNP, RN, NEA-BC, CENP also provided a statement in celebration of the redesignation, saying “Nurses at every level contributed to close to 90 stories submitted in our document. During our site visit, the appraisers spoke with 466 individuals, primarily nurses. Our Magnet Redesignation is a true reflection on the work we do 24/7/365.”
Magnet recognition is the gold standard for nursing and is a factor when the public judges health care organizations. Receiving redesignation illustrates that SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital has not only met this gold standard of care but continued to maintain and improve care. To be redesignated with Magnet status further exemplifies the essence of the Glennon Factor – a commitment to patients, families, and staff to provide nationally recognized, exceptional care in a welcoming and environment.
