Telehealth Services

Leveraging technology to deliver specialty care.

At SSM Health, we are proud of our telehealth programs! By leveraging advances in technology, SSM Health is improving access to expert care in communities throughout Missouri, Oklahoma, Illinois and Wisconsin while removing the inconvenience of extended travel to see a doctor.

Telehealth appointments are where you are connected with a specialist remotely if the area you live in does not have the kind of specialty care you need.

Common questions about telehealth services:

Is telehealth covered by insurance?

In most places, Medicare, Medicaid, and third party insurance companies treat telehealth visits the same as in-office visits. If your insurance plan covers the specialty, then it covers your telehealth visit. The exact same codes are used for billing. See if your health insurance is accepted at SSM Health.

What happens at a telehealth appointment?

When you arrive for your appointment and check in, one of the clinic staff will escort you to the examination room. The nurse will assist the provider with the visit, and you will be able to see and hear the provider, in real, face-to-face time.

You will be able to interact with your provider. You can discuss symptoms, concerns, and medical history, and your provider will be able to see your physical exam, listen to heart and lung sounds, and look into your ears, nose, and throat, all through the telehealth unit. Your information and conversation will be private and confidential.

Is telehealth the same as a virtual visit with my provider or SSM Health's on-demand virtual care option?

Telehealth appointments are where you are connected with a specialist remotely if the area you live in does not have the kind of specialty care you need. This can greatly reduce the amount of time you might spend traveling to another city to see a doctor for speciality care.

You can schedule a video visit with your primary care physician - or select specialties - for routine visits that your doctor agrees can be done through our secure video application. These visits are billed the same as a normal office visit.

Our on-demand virtual care option is part of SSM Health Express Virtual Care. For certain illnesses and injuries you can use this type of appointment instead of going to an urgent care or your provider's office.
