Fresh Tissue Collection & Submission

All specimens sent to the laboratory as "fresh" samples must be submitted according to the specifications below.

Renal Biopsy

The laboratory prefers to receive all renal biopsy samples fresh, according to the directions found below. The specimen should be submitted to the laboratory within two hours of initial collection to prevent deterioration of the specimen.

All Other Tissue for Immunofluorescence (IF)

The laboratory prefers to receive tissue for IF testing fresh, according to the directions below. Submission in Michel's medium will cause staining artifact and slows processing turnaround time.

All fresh samples can be processed for paraffin, immunofluorescence, and electron microscopy, or any combination of the aforementioned options.
