Welcome to the Baraboo Rural Training Track Residency Program at SSM Health Dean Medical Group Baraboo and SSM Health St. Clare Hospital - Baraboo!
Our Baraboo Residency Program was founded in 1996 and is led by Dr. Stuart Hannah, Program Director along with many other Faculty Physicians.
Our Residents provide a comprehensive, patient-centered model of care for your entire family; since they specialize in Family Medicine they provide care for every stage of life from babies, children, pregnant women, adults, and seniors.
The Baraboo Rural Training Track Family Medicine Residency is a combined Graduate Medical Educational program in cooperation with SSM Health Dean Medical Group Baraboo, SSM Health St. Clare Hospital, Baraboo, and UW Madison Department of Family Medicine and Community Health.
What should I expect from the Family Medicine Residency in Baraboo?
SSM Health’s Baraboo Family Medicine Residency is a full spectrum rural training program to prepare physicians for a broad range of practice and future settings, including residents possibly staying locally to practice after residency, with the goal of increasing physicians in rural practice in Wisconsin. SSM Health is committed to your personal and professional growth and offers a supportive environment for training for a lifelong career in medicine.
SSM Health Dean Medical Group Baraboo Primary Care is the ambulatory training site of the Baraboo Family Medicine Rural Training Track (RTT) along with SSM Health St. Clare Hospital - Baraboo and skilled nursing facility, CC Jefferson Meadows Baraboo. We are a 1/2 RTT structure with the majority of the 1st year completed in Madison with the UW Madison Residency Program, and 2nd and 3rd years completed in Baraboo. The faculty consists of 12 Family Medicine Physicians, 4 of whom are graduates of the Baraboo RTT program.

- Residents primarily train at SSM Health St. Clare Hospital, Baraboo, a nationally recognized community-based hospital. This is complimented by a large number of rotations during intern year at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital-Madison, Meriter Hospital-Madison, and University of Wisconsin Hospital-Madison.
- Graduates of the program have secured positions such as Primary Care Providers, Rural Hospitalist, Emergency Medicine Fellowship, Family Medicine with Obstetrics, Geriatric Fellowship, and more.
- The Baraboo RTT Residency program is affiliated with the University of Wisconsin Department of Family Medicine and Community Health. The program is in Baraboo, Wisconsin, approximately 45 minutes north of Madison, and 3 hours from Chicago and the Twin Cities.

What is the Baraboo community like?
Baraboo as a community has so much to offer, with a culturally diverse population of 12,556 people it continues to grow and progress while also remaining an icon of small town rural America, with a quaint downtown square that boasts farmers markets, summer concerts, and unique shopping and dining experiences.
- It is rich in circus history as home of the Ringling Brothers with the Circus World Museum, and Al Ringling Theater which includes an active arts community.
- Baraboo is also home to Ochsner Park Zoo, the International Crane Foundation, and Devils Lake State Park which offers hiking, swimming, fishing and camping in the beautiful Baraboo bluffs.
- We are just a short drive from Wisconsin Dells which offers additional shopping, dining, and entertainment experiences as well.
