Curriculum
The residency is offered as a rural-based family medicine program, providing top-quality training at SSM Health Monroe Hospital. A limited number of rotations are offered in partnership with the University of Wisconsin Department of Family Medicine and Community Health.
Residents can expect to spend 32 months at SSM Health Monroe Hospital. Required away rotations include:
- First year: One month away rotation for obstetrics
- Second year: Two months away for Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital – Madison and Inpatient Pediatrics at Children’s Wisconsin
For required away call rotations (inpatient/OB), the program provides complimentary housing, meal stipends, and mileage reimbursement to residents.

Elective Options
All the above rotations can also be taken as electives. Residents are allowed one away rotation during their second year and one away rotation during their third year.
