Rural Scholar Pathway
SSM Health Monroe Hospital’s Rural Scholar Pathway provides a community-based family medicine training experience for Midwestern University students. With access to SSM Health Monroe Hospital’s Family Medicine Residency Program, the Rural Scholar will have access to both rural resident and rural faculty mentors as they extend their exposure to rural community health.

Who Can Apply?
M3 students in good academic standing with Midwestern University are eligible to apply and must complete:
- Written personal statement demonstrating the basis for their participation highlighting interest
- Updated Curriculum Vitae (CV)
- Statement from Midwestern University indicating the student is in good standing
- Two letters of recommendation from faculty
- Successful interview with program leadership and SSM Health Monroe Hospital Family Medicine Residency chief resident(s) that is consistent with current resident interview process
- COMLEX Level 1 scores received and submitted to program by September 1
