The PGY1 Pharmacy Residency program at SSM Health St. Clare Hospital - Fenton adjusts to the needs of our residents. We continuously evaluate and improve the program to produce the most effective and enjoyable learning experiences for our residents.
Required Learning Experiences
- Orientation (7 weeks)
- Ambulatory Care (5 weeks)
- Anticoagulation Management (5 weeks)
- Critical Care (5 weeks)
- Infectious Disease (5 weeks)
- Internal Medicine - Medical/Surgical (5 weeks)
- Internal Medicine - Neurology (5 weeks)
Elective Learning Experiences
- The resident will select 2, 5-week elective learning experiences.
- Ambulatory Care II*
- Anticoagulation Management II*
- Clinical Pharmacy Management
- Critical Care II
- Emergency Medicine
- Internal Medicine - Med/Surg II
- Oncology Pharmacy - System Administration
*The resident may select either Ambulatory Care II or Anticoagulation Management II as elective learning experiences, but not both.*

Discretionary Time
- December Resident Discretion (4 weeks)
- June Resident Discretion (1 week)
Certifications, Teaching Opportunities, and Conference Attendance
- Certification in Basic and Advanced Life Support
- Prepare and deliver continuing education seminars at a local college of pharmacy
- Co-precept IPPE and APPE students
- Prepare and present longitudinal topic discussions to onsite IPPE and APPE students
- Completion of a teaching certificate program at a local college of pharmacy
- Sponsorship to attend ASHP Midyear and a regional residency conference
Staffing Requirements
- Two, 8-hour shifts every 4th weekend
- Cover one evening shift per week, 5 hours in duration
