Substance Use Disorder

This course is for physicians, nurses, social workers, and others caring for the mother/infant dyad affected by substance use disorder.

Course Objectives

  1. Describe substance use disorder as a disease and its effects on the brain.
  2. Understand the importance of stigma and bias training for those caring for women with SUD.
  3. Gain a greater understanding of ESC in assessing and caring for the infant affected by SUD.
  4. Describe the role rooming-in, breastfeeding, and non-pharmacologic interventions play as first-line treatment for NAS/NOWS.
