Residency Overview
The PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital is structured to provide a broad foundation in clinical pharmacy practice within a community hospital setting. The program emphasizes development in acute care, ambulatory services, and specialized areas through a combination of core and elective rotations. Required experiences include internal medicine, critical care, transitions of care, anticoagulation, antimicrobial stewardship, and pharmacy management. Elective opportunities allow residents to explore areas such as behavioral health, emergency medicine, surgery/rehab, and outpatient oncology. Residents engage in longitudinal experiences focused on research, academia/education, medication safety and quality, and service commitment, fostering growth in leadership, communication, and clinical decision-making. Graduates of the program are well-prepared to advance patient care, pursue PGY2 training, or transition into clinical or operational pharmacy roles.
